Crazy Loon of the Week
I was listening to 700 WLW last Friday. Tracy Jones (et al.) were discussing the Cincinnati Bengals. Last week's game against the Baltimore Ravens didn't sell out, so Kroger came along and bought the remaining tickets to avoid a blackout. (The NFL has a blackout rule. If the game doesn't sell out, it gets blacked out in the home team's market.)
Very cool for Kroger to do that.
Kroger then decided to give away the tickets to hundreds of folks in the military.
Even cooler.
A woman named Sarah called into the show and said this (I am paraphrasing here, but the theme is not exaggerated):
"I am so sick and tired of the military getting everything. Why should they get the free tickets? What about the rest of us?"
Sarah is a nurse, and she felt slighted. Tracy Jones nearly exploded. I was in shock. She continued to ramble, making herself look worse with every ignorant word.
Nurses work hard. Lots of people do. Many people deserve thanks for their service to others. But folks in the military are on a whole different level. I cannot even begin to imagine what it would be like to fight in a war. I have such an amazing life, in part because millions of Americans have died defending our freedom.
We do a really bad job expressing our gratitude to those in the military. Any opportunity to do so, even if it's something small like a free football ticket, I'm all for it. I work hard and help others, but military personnel serve this country in ways that dwarf my contributions.
And yours, Nurse Sarah.

I do know that Tracy does have plants call on a regular basis (i.e. the lady that claimed to get a ticket for having her son at a Reds game during school). However, this did sound legit. Who knows...
I heard that call as well. Not to to take anything away from nursing, as it's a great profession and my mom is a nurse, but Sarah was way out of line.
Maybe she can go to Iraq as a field nurse in the Army and see exactly what it's like to be 1,000's of miles from home in a place where there are people would like nothing better than to blow her head off...

Yeah, my husband was telling me about that and like, Jon, I know Tracy does have plants call. My husband also thought it was for real. It's hard to believe that someone can be so clueless.
Yeah, I am aware of the plants. I used to listen to Phil Hendrie all the time, and he did a similar thing. While I don't claim to be the smartest person in the world, I am pretty good at picking out the fake calls. I am 99 percent sure Nurse Sarah was real.
If not, well played Tracy Jones.

You just have to laugh at that.
Ever think about going into the radio business? In my limited knowledge of you as a person, I think you'd be good at it. I'd listen.
fuller, dan's idea is actually pretty good. people would get used to your weird voice eventually.
Wow.. that's terrible. Clearly she doesn't even know anyone who serves in the miltiary. What a shame.. our military rocks. Esp the Air Force.... :) But I might be biased.
I'm not a soldier, but my husband is. Thanks for appreciating him.
